Description

VP Tax & Treasury is responsible for overseeing the income tax and sales & use tax functions to insure accurate reporting and minimization of tax. In addition the individual is responsible for overseeing the capital expenditure process and fixed asset accounting for the company.

Job Responsibilities

Taxes

  • Ensuring federal corporate & partnership returns, and ~65 state, and local income and franchise tax returns are completed and filed accurately and timely.
  • Manage preparation of corporate tax returns in Mexico and Canada. 
  • Overseeing preparation and filing of ~175 sales & use tax, Canadian GST, Mexico IVA and tire fee returns each month.
  • Creatively developing and implementing tax strategies and policies that minimize the company’s tax liability and maximize its after-tax profits. This involves researching and analyzing tax laws and regulations, identifying tax risks and opportunities, and advising senior management on tax opportunities in the US and abroad.
  • Compute the expected income tax rate for corporate income tax in accordance with ASC740 to be utilized by financial accounting and in the preparation of forecasts.
  • Preparing and reviewing the tax provision and disclosures for the organization’s financial statements. This includes ensuring compliance with accounting standards, as well as providing tax guidance and support to external auditors.
  • Regularly communicate with the Chief Financial Officer on all tax matters including effective tax rate, tax planning, risks & opportunities and other tax matters.
  • Communicating with the tax departments of the Shareholders to discuss tax opportunities and to keep them apprised of the tax attributes of the company.
  • Represent the company in income tax and sales & use tax audits by the Internal Revenue Service and state tax authorities
  • Lead transfer pricing analysis
  • Compute intercompany management fees between the US and Mexico
  • Team with accounting firms on tax compliance and tax planning projects
  • Lead escheatment reporting to all states and identification of unclaimed property belonging to the company.

Additional Job Responsibilities

Capital Expenditures & Fixed Assets

  • Plan, coordinate and conduct meetings of the Funding Committee including overseeing the approval process
  • Responsible for developing and implementing strategies to optimize capital expenditures, ensuring that the company’s capital investments align with its overall business objectives
  • Manage the capital budget and monitor capital expenditures.  Identify and implement changes for projects in danger of exceeding budget.
  • Lead the team responsible for recording fixed & intangible asset additions, deletions and transfers in the accounting system for operations in the US, Canada and Mexico.
  • Develop fixed and intangible accounting policies based on International Financial Reportings Standards (IFRS) and Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).  Effectively communicate the policies to non-accountants.
  • Prepare fixed asset disclosures for the audited financial statements including providing data requested by external auditors.
  • Lead development of automation opportunities to improve accuracy and efficiency
  • Team with representatives of other departments to determine timing for in-servicing of assets.

Continued Responsibilities

Treasury

  • Coordinate the activities of a 7 person team focused on ensuring that cash positions effectively cover the needs of the organization.  This includes but is not limited to favorable negotiations of TBC credit line, ensuring that cash is positioned within Mexico and U.S. (coordination with tax required), ensuring payments are processed timely.
  • Assists with forecasting cash positions and communicates issues with upper management.
  • Drive efficiencies with the Treasury organization and transform team along with credit operations to become team that is focused on driving sales and helping customers with credit lines.

Qualifications

  • Certified Public Accountant
  • Bachelors in Accounting.  Masters in Accounting/Tax is a plus
  • 15 years of tax experience
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Experience with Treasury a plus
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Strong leadership and management skills
  • Bilingual language skills in Spanish / English are a plus
