The Senior Real Estate Accountant role is highly visible within our organization and is responsible for producing various analysis and schedules in conjunction with financial reporting on a daily, weekly, monthly, and annual basis.  Reports financial results to management and others, offering suggestions about resources, budgeting, process improvements and cost savings initiatives. Familiarity with more complicated accounting concepts, practices and controls. Relies on experience and sound business judgement to perform tasks and accomplish goals.

Job Responsibilites
  • Ability to read, comprehend, and interpret lease related legal documents for proper accounting treatment, validating payments and billings within CoStar Real Estate lease management system.
  • Research and document the impact of more complex accounting principles including understand new Lease Accounting standards, including US GAAP ASC842 and IFRS 16 and Revenue Recognition for subleases, the related calculations, as well as the associated reporting and accounting requirements regarding contingent leases and option periods.
  • Support monthly Rent processes including AP rent payments and AR rent billing.
  • Leads & mentors Real Estate Accounting team in daily and monthly activities.
  • Support junior staff in understanding real estate accounting transactions.
  • Assist in preparation of journal entries to ensure accurate and timely recording of account transactions for month-end close process.
  • Prepare and/or review and sign-off on journal entries and reconciliations of team members.
  • Review expense analysis and other fluctuation analysis performed by staff.
  • Assist in annual Real Estate budgeting process and quarterly forecasts.
  • Communicate financial information to appropriate individuals in a timely manner.
  • Suggest and implement process improvements to daily accounting functions.
  • Prepares routine and ad hoc reporting accompanied by the appropriate supporting documentation.
  • Ability to effectively interact via written and verbal communications with Landlords, Property Managers, Dealers/Franchisees, and TBC management to resolve Real Estate tasks in a timely manner.

 

Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting required.  An MBA or Masters in Accounting a plus. CPA preferred
  • 5-7 years of accounting experience; three years Real Estate experience a plus but not required.
  • Team leader with ability to motivate and inspire others.
  • Self-motivated, independent critical thinker, problem-solver, comfortable multi-tasking in a work environment with strict deadlines.
  • Excellent reconciliation and analytical skills.
  • Excellent PC skills, including Excel, Access and Word. SAP and CoStar (real estate software) experience a plus.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills with proven ability to identify and resolve intra-departmental accounting issues.
  • Work well under pressure.
